Actions To Be Done In The First Ten Days of Dhul Hijjah

The first 10 days of Dhul Hijjah are the best days of the entire year, so actions you can do are:

  • Intend good in everything you do
  • Fast
  • Give sadaqa (Charity)
  • Do a sacrifice (Udhiya)
  • Read more Qur’an
  • Make sure you fast the day of Arafah
  • Recite takbeer. The most authentic of which is that which was narrated by ‘Abd al-Razzaaq with a Sahih isnad (chain) from Salmaan who said, ‘Proclaim Allah’s greatness: Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar kabeeraa.”
  • Do lots of dhikr
  • Make lots of du’a.

The good deeds during these days isn’t restricted to fasting only (other than the day of Arafat), so do that which is easy for you; spending time with parents, visiting the sick.

It is extremely important to work on our obligations to Allah first. When we hear of virtuous times of the year we automatically think of increasing our optional actions.

Let’s master our obligations first; praying our fard salaah with total humbleness and submission, working on removing jealousy and hatred from our hearts, avoiding being arrogant.

Children Memorising the Qur’an

Hifdh al Quran is a noble act and if a child finishes it before puberty then that’s excellent, but if they hit puberty, they’re going to be held accountable for everything they memorise.

It’s better to have a child who has excellent manners and character, and memorising slowly with love of the deen, than someone who spends every living second memorising the Qur’an and spends no time on their manners and character.

This is not belittling memorising the Qur’an, but it’s been seen many times that a student lies and backbites and so on as he’s not understood the true value of a haafidh. This is a huge problem!

Ramadaan Series {Day 9} – Acts of Worship to Do During Ramadaan

Many think that reciting the Qur’an is just during the day when fasting whereas the Prophet (saw) would meet Jibreel (as) in the night. So, try to read some Qur’an at night too.

Also, remember that if you can, even if it’s only 5 minutes, pray more after tarawih. A person may pray tarawih, go home and miss out on the blessed last third of the night.

Finally, do some istighfar in the time just before fajr as this was the practice of the Sahaabah and the righteous of the past.

Purify Through Charity

{خُذْ مِنْ أَمْوَالِهِمْ صَدَقَةً تُطَهِّرُهُمْ وَتُزَكِّيهِمْ بِهَا} التوبة: 103

Transliteration: Khuth min amwalihim sadaqatan tutahhiruhum watuzakkeehim biha.

“Take, [O, Muhammad], from their wealth a charity by which you purify them and cause them increase, and invoke [ Allah ‘s blessings] upon them. Indeed, your invocations are reassurance for them. And Allah is Hearing and Knowing.”

Furthermore, the Prophet, prayers and peace of Allah be upon him, said: “Treat your sick ones with charity.” [Reported by Abu Dâwûd]

«داووا مرضاكم بالصدقة» رواه ابو داود

Repenting For Your Sins

أواب حفيظ – Those that repent often is mentioned in the Qur’an. Some of the people of the past mentioned it’s a person who remembers his sins when he is by himself and seeks forgiveness. They are the people that will be told BY Allah:

ادْخُلُوهَا بِسَلَامٍ ذَٰلِكَ يَوْمُ الْخُلُودِ

“Enter you therein in peace and security; this is a Day of eternal life!”

May Allah make us from them.

Recite The Qur’an

Remember to have a set portion of Qur’an to recite daily.

Try to read Surah Baqarah at least once a week in your homes.

« اقْرَأُوا الْبَقَرَةَ فَإِنَّ أَخْذَهَا بَرَكَةٌ وَتَرْكَهَا حَسْرَةٌ وَلَا تَسْتَطِيعُهَا الْبَطَلَة»

(Read Al-Baqarah, because in having it there is blessing, and in ignoring there is a sorrow and the sorceresses cannot memorize it).

Also, Imam Muslim narrated this Hadith in the Book of Prayer.
